The William Creek Falls Trail is a relatively short, easy scenic trail with minimal elevation that follows the historic Dewdney pack trail along the western edge of the Creston Valley Wildlife Management Area's Summit Creek & Leach Lake area.
The trail begins at the Summit Creek parking area outside the CVMWA, following the old access road over Summit Creek, then turning left through a cedar canopy along the creek before gently climbing up onto rocky arid bluffs heading northward. Along here you will find many scenic lookouts to enjoy the views of the savanna-like wetlands & Leach Lake below. Keep an eye out for the old cabin as well!
Continuing along the trail you eventually dip down into a mature cedar grove and arrive shortly at Williams Creek Falls - surrounded by large and old trees that offer a cool spot on a hot summer days - a small but refreshing reward for your efforts. If you are inclined you can continue downhill towards the wetlands and the option of following the dikes & roads back to Summit Creek & the parking lot.
Getting to the trailhead: From Creston, travel west on Hwy 3 for 10 km to the parking area for the CVWMA just before the Summit Creek highway bridge. Bypass the gate and follow the old paved road over Summit Creek on a bailey bridge and then follow the trail signs.
Please note this is prime grizzly bear habitat; hike in small groups and carry bear spray. The trail also crosses private land; please respect the wishes of the land owners and obey all signs. Dogs must be on leash at all times.
